Kaffebox – April 19 Box Preview: Jacu

Now it’s finally time for the next KaffeBox, we’ve finally caught up with the date! Let’s go with the April 19 box!

This will be the 16th time for KaffeBoxyou can read the most previous post here. Unfortunately, I still haven’t received the February 19 Box, but I got the customs to blame for that.

The coffee comes from the Norwegian Ålesund roastery Jacu. Next week we will review coffee from Colombia and Guatemala.

As usual, I start with an informative text about the coffees:

Jacu, Ålesund, Norway.

1) Jacu – Tarqui
Personal cupping and recipe will be published 2019-05-08

Origin: Colombia
Variety:  Castillo, Caturra
Producer: Micro Lot
Region: Tarqui
Process: Washed
Altitude: 1 300 – 1 600  masl.

Cupping notes from the coffee roastery:
Passion fruit & sweet nectarine.

Expectation:
Tarqui is well known for its high-quality coffee. I’ve had many good experiences in drinking coffee from that region in Colomba. Reading the more detailed cup notes from KaffeBox: “Cherry and floral aromas. Passion fruit, floral, sweet nectarine taste notes”. Makes me expect a fruity Kenyan-like cup. Which could be cool!

2) Jacu – Jaqueline 88+
Personal cupping and recipe will be published 2019-05-12

Origin: Guatemala
Variety: Bourbon, Caturra
Producer: Renardo Ovalle
Region: Huehuetenango, La Bolsa
Process: Washed
Altitude: 1 300 – 1 600 masl.

Cupping notes from the coffee roastery:
Mango, apple & hazelnut.

Expectation:
I’m gonna bet that this coffee got an 88+ rating which is good haha! So just because of that, I’m really looking forward to drinking this coffee! KaffeBox also mentions that this coffee tastes like “Flower and vanilla aroma. Mango & apple with hazelnuts and nougat in the cup” which makes this even more interesting!!

Conclusion: It’s my first time trying coffee from Jacu, I can’t say much to be honest because I don’t have a clue. Something I can say is that the bags looks amazing and their descriptions sound really cool, especially Jaqueline 88+.

As usual, I always wish to give a respectful greeting to KaffeBox, which allows us to get together with coffee from all over Scandinavia so that we can see how we roast differently and at the same time give us the best coffee from there. As a Swede, I hope we support our wonderful neighbors and continue to subscribe.

I’m going with my gut and picking Jaqueline 88+ as a winner!
