Budhas Kafferosteri – Hjortronkaffe (Cloudberry Coffee)

This will be the eighth time Budhas Kafferosteri enters kaffenytt, who is one of my favorite coffee roasters. Have you ever tried to drink something that is very different from the more common taste? I mean, this is the most different coffee I’ve ever tried in my life. It’s logical that it’s very different since it’s actually blended with cloudberry (mind blown), and it actually works. It’s a bit funky in the beginning but now when the bag is empty I really miss it.

There’s actually more information on the back than normal, I’ll quote all of it:

“We are very proud to present to you our exclusive blend between coffee and cloudberries. Here we have succeeded in keeping the rich taste and character from both. The coffee beans have grown in volcanic soil at high altitudes in the mountain of Rwanda. The golden cloudberries grow wild in the mires of Lapland. We call them “the gold of Lapland”. Both beans and berries are handpicked and 100% organic, please enjoy this unique taste experience.

And as usual we also find:

“We are an artisan coffee roastery in the north of Sweden Lapland. We roast our coffee with passion in small batches, using a traditional drumroast”

Pour Over:

20 g coffee (grind setting 26B at Baratza Sette 270, medium)
300 g filtered water
60 g blooming 45 seconds
92 degrees Celsius

1) Pour 60g water for blooming for 45 seconds.
2) 45 seconds in, begin your second pour of 60g of water.
3) 1 minute and 30 seconds in,  begin your third pour of 60g of water.
4) 2 minutes and 15 seconds in,  begin your fourth pour of 60g of water.
5) 3 minutes in,  begin your fifth pour of 60g of water.
6) Stop the dripper at 3 minutes and 30 seconds.

*Always rinse the paper filter with filtered hot water, don’t forget to wash the coffee server with clean water afterward, because the taste of the paper might linger.

Review:
This is so weird, but you know, some weird stuff is kinda cool. And this is kinda cool! But how does this actually stand against “real coffee”?

It doesn’t have what I might’ve wanted, but it sure does deliver something I’ve never expected. It’s sweet, it’s… It’s very unique. It’s actually so unique that he’s the only one making it.

If you’ve never tried it, you should, because this is so unique that you have to, it’s easy as that. Really cool, really good and kudos to Budha at Budhas Kafferosteri!
